VPO social housing can also be like this in Mijas

The days of pesetas are almost forgotten, when you could buy an officially protected apartment for between 2 and 3 million pesetas (between 12,000 and 18,000 euros).

I still remember when my friend Fernando told me how he bought his 90 m2 apartment for 3 million pesetas in the Actur, which today is the best area of ​​Zaragoza. This same apartment today may be worth more than 250,000 euros.

The quality of the VPO constructions of the 90s and early 2000s were really excellent as well as their prices.

Today or better since 2005, the prices of VPO homes have become prohibitive and their qualities border on indecent. The use of concrete has been reduced by half and to compensate for this reduction and limit its weight, the brick walls are replaced by Pladur walls. Iron structures are also used instead of concrete pillars between floors.

Here in Mijas it has been many years since VPOs have been built and this has already created extreme situations such as children living with their families in their parents' houses or paying prohibitive rents.

Nobody has enough money to pay for a mortgage and the banks are putting more and more impediments. Home prices since 2014 (the end of the economic crisis that began in 2009) have skyrocketed, rising more than 200%.

#SoydeMijas together with his team is aware of this situation and the need to build VPO homes in Mijas for sale and rent. For this reason, point 5 of its electoral program, for the municipal elections of 2023 (, proposes the following:

a.- Construction of VPO housing:

Only and exclusively Mijas citizens who have been registered in the municipality for a minimum of 10 years will have access to it. Homes with 1, 2, 3 and 4 bedrooms will be built in order to give access in a non-discriminatory manner to any type of family nucleus, from single-parent families to large families.

We will build officially protected housing from the first year of the Government.

The houses will have complementary services such as swimming pools, gardens and sports areas. Its quality and price will be proportionally correct and accessible.

These homes will be used for:

1.- Sale at VPO price.

2.- Rent with option to buy.

3.- VPO low income rental.
